Cancer cover with Freedom Elite

Our cancer care promise.

Cancer Research UK estimates that nearly 1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime (Cancer Research UK, lifetime risk, last reviewed November 2023).

Around half of people diagnosed with cancer in the UK now survive for 10 years or more (Cancer Research UK, cancer survival statistics), and diagnosis and treatment continue to improve.

Every Freedom Elite policy includes comprehensive cancer cover as standard, covering eligible diagnosis and treatment costs, subject to the policy terms. We also do not apply the chronic conditions exclusion to cancer treatment claims.

Good to know

This page explains the cancer cover included with Freedom Elite. If you have a different Freedom Health Insurance product, your policy documents explain your cancer cover.

Cancer cover FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Having Freedom Elite does not affect your right to NHS treatment. Where eligible cancer treatment is provided by the NHS, you may be entitled to an NHS cash benefit under your Freedom Elite policy. Our Cancer Care Team can explain the benefit available and discuss your individual circumstances.

Having a family history of cancer does not, by itself, mean cancer treatment is excluded under Freedom Elite. However, the policy does not cover routine cancer screening or preventative treatment where there are no symptoms, even if there is a family history of cancer. Cover for any cancer diagnosis or treatment remains subject to the policy terms and underwriting conditions.

Freedom Elite cancer cover is not restricted to particular types of cancer. However, the treatment proposed must meet the policy's requirements, including the rules relating to active cancer treatment, established clinical practice and licensed drugs.

If you are a Freedom Elite member, contact our Cancer Care Team on 01202 283 592 or at cct@fhi.co.uk before arranging any treatment. The team will confirm your cover and stay in touch as your treatment progresses.
